Daily take time to check-in with how you are feeling – your emotional health is not something to be ignored nor undervalued nor taken for granted. It is the foundation upon which you make all your decisions – from finances to employment to your relationships; you tend your physical needs daily l(brush teeth, comb hair, eat food etc) and in the same way it is important to monitor your inner well being. Are you having reoccurring uncomfortable thoughts? How is the level of tension within your body ? How tense are your muscles? How is your sleep?
We will always be most at peace when we focus upon our present moment, not replaying regrets from our past, or fretting about our future. Our past is something we can learn from but it is….in the past. Our future is something to plan for but it is…..in the future. What we have is now, so bring your focus to living in your present. Today is all you need to navigate.
We will always be most at peace when we focus upon our own personal responsibilities , not others’, not fate’s/God’s. While we may yearn for those we love to make healthy choices, the reality is we only have a level of influence over them. It is a myth to believe we have the ability to make decisions for others. It is a myth to believe we have total control over our world. The rain will come. The sun comes up…. but I don’t have control over these things. What we do have control over are our own thoughts, behaviours, choices. This is where to put our energy and this is what makes us feel most at peace.
We are always most at peace when we live according our to values. Connect with your big picture purpose in life story and then decide how to live today according to this purpose. What are the character qualities you hope your child might say about you in their speech at their 21st birthday party or on their wedding day? At your 50th birthday, if you asked a family member, a colleague, and a friend to speak about you what qualities would you like them to have seen in you.
Cultivate a sense of awe. Focus upon those things bigger and grander than you feel you are; notice the beautiful, inspiring, and fascinating. It is easy to become disillusioned, worn out, and even plain bored with the pain, repetition and hardships of life. As individuals, we may vary in what we find truly inspirational . For example: spirituality/religious faith; nature (from the wonders of space to the exquisite colouring of ladybirds); admirable qualities in people; the wonder of daily living. I love rainforests, hence the pictures within my webpage.
It can be time to see a professional when you feel life is getting on top of you; when there is a topic too personal to discuss with your closest personal confidants; when you have exhausted all your resources.
